Many happy moments in my life have spent in front of my little one in his/her high chair. I have so enjoyed the quiet time spent feeding them. They would wiggle their little toes,and I would wipe their messy baby food covered faces. Admittedly there were times when sitting still to feed them seemed inconvenient. I would wish they were older so they could feed themselves and I could get more housework done. But looking back, I cherish every moment and wouldn’t have it any differently. Childrens furniture is a necessity. It was a lot of fun furniture shopping for my kids and I still remember all the different things each child had and how the styles changed over the years. My children are nearly grown now. Someday I hope to go shopping for furniture for my grandchildren. And If I’m lucky, I will get to feed them in their highchairs.

Designing childrens furniture isn’t an easy feat. It’s actually becoming more sophisticated these days. It’s a common misconception that designing these products is relatively straight forward. And essentially, it is. But it’s in the margins, it’s in the nuances of these things that designers are really having the most trouble. These days, many parents are very educated in the specialties surrounding children. There’s pediatrics. There’s child psychology and psychiatry. There’s the processes of growth that kids go through their first few years. And it’s all sort of cutting edge, and it all must be kept up with. For instance, it’s been a relatively recent development, pediatrics. And we’re just no unlocking the key phases to that early development and growth. Designers of the furniture that’s going to suit these young ones really must encapsulate this new knowledge, otherwise parents are going to come to the stores’ floors wondering why product A isn’t good for children’s back, and so on…
