Why should you buy turf online, rather than face to face from a sales person? First and foremost, it makes everything run more smoothly. You don’t need to find somewhere nearby to drive to just to see whether they have what you’re after. You don’t need to organise delivery and pay for someone to ship it – especially if it’s a large order. You can do it all from the comfort of your chair.

By ordering online, you can see all the options that the supplier has to offer, without needing to enquire and possibly miss something. You can specify your requirements and someone will get back to you if its out of working hours – and if you have an urgent question during the day, you can just call up and ask.

Ordering online has never been more secure either. Some people are nervous about entering their payment details online, but you needn’t be. Any decent company will provide a secure log in for you to eliminate the risk.

If you have ever thought about making hummingbird food, it would be important to consider having a well suited hummingbird food recipe for the task. A typical hummingbird food recipe would consist of a ratio of sugar to water specific for what a hummingbird may like. In this case the ratio would be 1 cup sugar to match 4 cups water, and if you search around you will find this is the most common hummingbird food recipe used today. Make sure to boil your water first before mixing the water and sugar in order to help break down the sugar and sanitize and bacteria that might be in the water. Whatever you might not use immediately keep in the refrigerator for use later in the week when you decide to change out your water and clean your feeder. Your hummingbird feeder should be cleaned weekly to prevent bacteria buildup that might otherwise harm the birds.

A Truly Great Grill

Aug 31, 2011

The one touch Weber BBQ grill that I bought my father for his Christmas gift this year is really the best grill that my father has ever had. Growing up my father loved to cook on the grill for us. My parents are great cooks and they both share the cooking duties. Every weekend my father would grill at least one day. He would make the best barbeque chicken that I have ever had in my life. He would always make me special chicken without sauce because he knew I didnt like it and always made me feel special when he gave it to me. I am his youngest and we have always had a special relationship. So this year I knew he really wanted a new grill and he had been saving up his money for one and that is when I decided my husband and I would give him the Weber grill for his Christmas present. He was so surprised and loved it. He actually cooked on it for New Years Day meal.

Landscaping As Art

Aug 14, 2011

For many people, backyard landscaping is less of a job and more of an engaging and fulfilling hobby. It is something that allows them the ability to work with plants and soil, while also creating what they consider to be a work of art. For example, over the course of the winter, I watched my neighbor plant things and dig them back up, move them around and replant. It always seemed like she was either adding or subtracting something to her landscape design. It seemed like she was not really doing anything. Then spring came. Suddenly, all of her endless hours in the yard started to make sense to me as I saw the yard take shape. Now there are all of these cools plants and flowers that have sprung up, producing an amazing array of symmetry and color that I did not think would come about after seeing her so busy in the yard.

Look outside at your yard. See the trees you have, the spaces available for more trees, the landscaping in general. You probably know how important a beautifully landscaped yard is to both the appearance and the value of your home. Trees are the focal point of your yard. I was laughing when David came and offered to clean up all my leaves for twenty dollars. I know he is saving up for college so I did not mind the price so much but when I saw him bring out one of the new lawn sweepers it really did make me chuckle.

I happen to know his dad bought that for himself as they get even more leaves than I do every year. So David is using his dads very expensive machine to make some money. I wonder if he is kicking back a fee for using it, or maybe his dad just hopes that the more the kid earns the less he has to pay towards his college.

I remember when I was a teenager I used to mow lawns and clean leaves for money. It was actually a good business as there were no other kids in the area who were old enough to be able to do it. I could have earned a fortune if I had been able to afford a lawn sweeper.

Container gardening requires a special mix that is not the same as garden soil mixes. Window boxes and flower pots alike require a soil mixture that is both porous for good drainage when container gardening, as well as one that will retain water.

Regular gardening soil, unlike the mixes made especially for container gardening, will over time cause the roots in your window boxes to form large balls of entanglement. When this happens, the water will not drain and the roots will then rot. I experienced this first hand a couple of summers ago when my wife and I decided to repot a flowering shrub that had been growing in a very large aggregate stone tub type flower pot. We had inherited it from the previous owners of our home. The shrub was looking malnourished, so we thought repotting would be the answer. We found the roots were in such a tight ball, that actually penetrated the container causing difficulty removing the plant. As well the stench of rotting debris was pungent – to say the least. Unfortunately we were unable to save the shrub.

Most seed catalogs and plant nurseries carry excellent potting mixtures for all container gardening needs, whether window boxes or flower pots – porosity, excellent drainage and water retention. If you have many container gardens to fill, these premixed soils may be expensive, so you may consider mixing your own. They should be a combination of:

1. Organic Material: peat moss, compost, bark etc. (1 part)

2. Mineral Matter: sand, vermiculite etc. (1 part)

3. Gardening Soil (2 parts)

Fertilizer should be used from time to time. The newest fertilizer that I am trying this year, is small pellets of time-released fertilizer especially for container gardening – window boxes, flower pots and hanging baskets. This simplifies the fertilizing process.

By using a good soil mixture, your container gardening will bring lots of color to your yard or balcony.

When I think of wind chimes, I picture relaxing and finding some peaceful time to myself relaxing in a garden like setting. Wind chimes provide us with a very comfortable and natural background noise, which is perfect when a person wishes to find some serenity after a really long day at work or a stressful situation. I grew up with a grandmother who collected all types of, especially aluminum wind chimes, along with many other things that she considered peaceful to her, including dragonflies, butterflies, and angels. In the spring and summer, she would wait for it to get cooler outside and then she would proceed to the garden and her arbored area where she kept most of the chimes. I do recall her being very religious, although she died when I was fairly young: only 9 years old. While planting and gardening, she would always say “The Lord speaks to me through the windchimes, and even though you may not be able to hear it, he helps me by blessing my garden.”

I have always heard that the art and creation of the wind chime originated in asia, and that it is a representation of harmony and the elements most commonly known as earth, air, fire, and water. Sound from the windchime comes from how it is constructed, and the wind literally provides a “force” for the metal to move in perfect synchrony to create such a beautiful rhythm as a result of this force. This is a perfect example of how science, physics, and nature are all connected in our universe!!

The most popular of these trees is perhaps the cherry blossom, which flowers sort of wildly and brightly, and are a mainstay traditional feature of the Washington D.C. area, where festivals are held during its bloom times. Trees that flower make for great features about landscapes and large lawns, as well as other yards of varying sizes, shapes and dimensions. Flowering Trees are trees that provide flowers about its plumes of leaves. There are a number of health and environmental effects of having this sort of tree or trees about a yard and landscape. There’s the fact that insects such as honey bees will tend to better pollinate the foliage and flowers about the property a bit better with these trees to help launch the whole process. There are also the fact that these are sources for high aesthetic values. If you’re looking for certain colors during the year, these trees are great solutions for that.
